Developmental Characteristics of 4 Year Old Child

Physical Development

i) Requires 9-10 hours of sleep each night .

ii) Require to put dresses and undress.

iii) Rides a tricycle skillfully and paddles it.

iv) Ride up and ride down on See-saw.

v) Throws and catches balls .

vi) Left or right hand grips are established .

vii) Walks downstairs and upstairs alternating feet without using a hand railing . 

viii) Interested in performing tricks like standing on head and one leg. 

ix ) Know dance steps and how to sing.

x) Know coordination skills like swimming , ice or roller skating . 

xi) Know to copy shapes and cuts with scissors . 

SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT 

i) He/She can take turns and share the things .

ii) Likes to make his/her own decision . 

iii) Understands and respect rules of the schools . 

iv ) Develop understanding of right and wrong .

v) Know how to express anger and love.

vi) Know how to carry on conversation with other children . 

vii) Likes to test his / her muscular strength and motor skills . 

viii) Notices when another child is angry or sad .

INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT 

i)Enjoy riddles and jokes .Know how to ask these.

ii)Likes to know reasons  of natural things happening and other phenomena. 

 iii) Able to remember stories and repeat these. 

iv) Recognizes categories of animals , objects and birds . 

v) Can understands concepts like yesterday , today , tomorrow . 

vi) Know how to memorize and repeats rhymes of stories . 

vii) Draws pictures that represents objects . 

vii) Sorts and compare objects . Knowledge of less than,more than and equal to.

viii) Has a good sense of humor and enjoys sharing jokes and laughter with adults .
